From the beginning, City outplayed their relegation-threatened opponents, and Julian Alvarez scored the game’s first goal after 15 minutes. After Ilkay Gundogan slipped Phil Foden in with an inch-perfect ball, Haaland’s strike ricocheted over the crossbar, but Alvarez was there from a few inches away to sweep home.
In just 14 minutes, Haaland scored to set a new Premier League record most goals in a single season for City, doubling Pep Guardiola’s team’s lead. Gundogan’s perseverance once more created the opportunity when his far post cross towards Foden was aimed into the path of the Norway striker, who tapped home for his 33rd goal overall and his 27th in the league this season.

As the half came to a close, the visitors secured victory when Foden capitalised on Philip Billing’s errant pass to elude Jack Stephens’ charge and put City three goals ahead. Six minutes into the second half, Chris Mepham deflected Alvarez’s shot into his own net to increase City’s lead to four. Once more, Foden provided the ball into the box as Guardiola’s team erupted.
The only significance of Lerma’s goal seven minutes from time was that it prevented City goalkeeper Ederson from recording his 100th Premier League clean sheet. Due to the loss, Bournemouth dropped to 19th place in the league standings on Saturday after Leeds United and West Ham United both won.
