The BBL will play fewer games than its current 61-game season, which will shorten the tournament’s duration. This has come as an effort to finish the league during the school holidays. And it is believed this decision will lead to an increase in the availability of players from Australia and other countries.

Under the new $AUS1.512 billion, seven-year broadcast agreement Cricket Australia signed with current partners Channel Seven and Foxtel, the BBL will be shortened to a 43-game season.

As part of the agreement, which was made official on Tuesday (January 3), Seven will also put a stop to the legal conflict they started because they felt the BBL had declined in quality over the previous few seasons.

Cricket Australia Broadcasting DEAL

With one year left on the six-year agreement struck in 2018, the new seven-year arrangement, worth $1.512 billion, officially starts in 2024. Fox and Seven will continue to air cricket through the conclusion of the summer of 2030–31.

Seven will continue to broadcast all men’s Tests, all women’s international games, at least 23 WBBL games, and 33 of the 43 BBL games when the new arrangement starts. Seven will also hold streaming rights on its free 7plus platform.

When the new agreement goes into effect starting with BBL|14, Seven’s BBL quota will include three BBL finals matches, representing another change from the current five-team finals system.
