The Indian esports industry progressed significantly with the arrival of PUBG Mobile. The title brought immense success to the Indian gaming industry and placed it in the global arena. However, its association with Chinese-based industry compelled the Government of India to ban it permanently. Shortly after, Krafton rebranded the game and relaunched the title under the name of BGMI. Although BGMI enjoyed equal success for more than a year, it met the same fate as PUBG, as it was banned by the Government of India on July 28.

BGMI Ban: What is the future of Free Fire MAX?

Free Fire was a Battle Royale title developed by Garena. However, a few months back the game got banned along with several other titles. Free Fire MAX, which is an upgrade from the original title continues to be available in the country. Since it is one of the most popular Battle Royale titles in India, it was speculated that gamers would promote Free Fire MAX in the absence of BGMI.

But recent trends indicate a different scenario altogether. Instead of promoting Free Fire MAX, gamers have been calling for a ban upon the popular BR title as well.

Some of the gamers’ reactions are given below:

From the reactions above it is evident that a certain portion of gamers do not want Free Fire MAX to continue its service. The reactions from the audience has left the community quite disheartened, since it shows that the Indian esports scene still has miles to go before it becomes an all-inclusive sphere. The idea of an all-inclusive esports community is to accommodate all kinds of games and gamers. However, it is evident that the Indian esports industry has miles to walk to reach such an understanding.

While a certain section of the Indian esports community believes that BGMI’s ban also calls for the ban of other titles like Free Fire MAX, a different section believes that the community should work towards stopping such random bans on gaming titles. To combat the issue of random bans, industry experts have suggested the implementation of a comprehensive set of rules and guidelines that will help players and developers to gain a better understanding of the limitations they must adhere to.
