Many renowned faces in the Esports industry have revealed that they believe the BGMI Ban can deter many sponsors and investors from investing in Indian Esports in the future.

BGMI Ban: Industry experts suggest that the BGMI ban will deter sponsors from investing in Indian esports

The massive boom in the popularity of BGMI in the one year since its release led to a huge growth in Indian Esports. Many organizations like Nodwin Gaming and Rooter organized their own LAN events for the title, bringing many professional titles into the limelight. However, the sudden ban on the game has left the entire Indian esports industry in a flux. Many industry experts have even suggested that the sudden BGMI ban has left sponsors and investors uncertain about their willingness to invest in Indian esports.

Rohit Agarwal, Founder and Director of Alpha Zegus, shared his thoughts about the impact of the BGMI ban. He believes that such decisions coming in overnight are very detrimental to esports in the country, and demotivates the industry as a whole.

“Tournament organizers had planned tournaments for the next one year. In fact, there are about three tournaments that are just around the corner, and all bookings have already been made and heavy investments have gone in. Such uncertainty just puts things at a standstill, and the impact of such decisions coming in overnight messes up with the timelines and demotivates the industry in general.”

Shivam Rao, Co-Founder of Trinity Gaming also echoed these thoughts, suggesting that these sudden bans on popular gaming titles were very detrimental for professional players as well, demotivating more young talent from taking up careers in esports.

“Professional teams have sponsorships and targets to achieve which will become difficult given the ban on the game. Brand collaborations will face a serious downfall in their viewership, thereby affecting channel statistics which will push content creators further down, leading to a loss of opportunities and marketing collaborations for them.”

According to Rao, popular organizations in the esports industry are already looking for ways to cope with the damages caused by the sudden ban on BGMI, both financial and otherwise.

The BGMI Ban can be detrimental for Indian esports on an international level

Speaking about the negative outcomes of the BGMI ban in india, Rohit Agarwal added that the negative impact was not limited just within the country. In fact, according to Agarwal, the BGMI ban will affect Indian esports on an international level as well. Winners of various BGMI tournaments in India were supposed to represent the country on an international level in Riyadh. However, the BGMI ban halted all such possibilities. Not only do such bans limit the international prospects of Indian esports players, but also deters international investors from seeking prospects in India.

“When such sudden bans come into play, not only do we close our windows to participate on an international stage, but also international brands and teams investing in India become uncertain about the future here, which negatively impacts the whole ecosystem.”

Seeking a solution for such issues, industry experts believe that a comprehensive set of rules and regulations is the need of the hour right now. They believe that such rules will help developers and players better understand the limitations they must adhere to while developing or playing various games. This, in turn, will help prevent such sudden bans on gaming titles in the future.

Krafton and the Government of India are yet to issue any official statements regarding the BGMI ban. So, fans will simply have to wait and watch to gain clarity about the future of BGMI in India.
