BCCI vs PCB: ICC – After current Pakistan Board Chairman (PCB) Najam Sethi, it now turns out of Ex PCB chair Ehsan Mani has lashed out International Cricket Council (ICC) for prioritizing and increasing BCCI’s revenue share. India is set to receive a whopping revenue share from the ICC media rights deal for the period 2024-27, which is worth $ 3 billion. BCCI will receive 38.5% of the net surplus from ICC, which is way more higher than the 22% it received in the current deal 2015-23. Mani feels the proposed model will benefit India the most, which is not required at the moment as ICC needs to target lesser-known countries. Follow ODI World Cup Live Updates with InsideSport.IN.

“The (proposed revenue distribution model) will be giving the most money to the country that needs it the least, which makes no sense,” Mani, who was ICC president from 2003-06 and stepped down from the Pakistan Cricket Board in 2021, told Forbes in an exclusive interview.

BCCI vs PCB: Mani lashes out at ICC and feels there is no strategic thinking at all

Mani feels there is no strategic thinking from ICC, and it is only thinking about India. ICC should like to diversify the game and should be concerned about developing games in associate countries like USA and Africa. The former PCB chairman said associate countries should be allotted a minimum 30% share instead of just 11%.

“It only takes one downturn in an economic cycle for the ICC members to be affected. There is far too much reliance on India,” he said.

“If the ICC wants a truly global game and diversifies its financial reliance, the country to develop is the US I would have put $20-30 million into the US You also need to grow the game in Africa, that’s the future.

“I think the global game (Associates) should have been allocated at least 30% (instead of 11%). That’s the only way to globalize the game.”

BCCI vs PCB: Why Mani feels ICC’s focus should be on other teams rather than India

· India has already established itself as a powerhouse with a good chunk of share and revenue.
· No other country apart from India has generated so much revenue in the past 10 years.
· Mani feels there should be parity among the 12 ICC full members rather than ICC giving the lion’s share to India.
· With cricket not yet fully developed in associate nations, Mani wants ICC to focus more on such countries.
· For now ICC is targeting India, as ICC feels the Indian market brings a lot of money.

“You have to give countries enough resources to not only develop their players but to pay them a fair amount, especially with the IPL and other T20 leagues targeting players,” he said.
“There are benefits to the Indian companies to advertise in the ICC events and worldwide. India are not playing on their own they are playing against other members. It’s a two-way street.”

India are set to host two ODI World Cups from 23two ODI World Cups from 23-27 cycle. It will host Men’s World Cup in 2023 and the Women’s World Cup in 2025.
