BCCI New Selection Committee: India Squad NZ Series: BCCI is set to announce the new batch of selectors next week. The Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) are meeting today to shortlist candidates. But with hardly any big names applying for the posts, Chetan Sharma is set to continue in the selection committee. But with Venkatesh Prasad frontrunner to come in from South Zone, it is unlikely that Chetan would stay on as the chairman. Prasad out-qualifies Chetan with more Test matches to his name. The new committee will pick the squad for India vs NewZealand series. Follow IND vs NZ LIVE Updates on InsideSport.IN.
New Selection Committee (Likely):

BCCI has received over 200 applications for the 5 vacant posts. But with some bogus emails including from namesakes of MS Dhoni and Virender Sehwag, CAC will have to comb through the list. The CAC is likely to interview both Chetan and Harvinder.
The CAC comprising Ashok Malhotra, Jatin Paranjpe and Sulakshna Naik are meeting in Mumbai physically to go through candidates and prepare a shortlist. CAC members will then meet BCCI officials on Friday to finalise the shortlist and begin the interview process.
“Of course, Chetan has a good chance and that is why he has reapplied. We have received a lot of applications but Chetan and Venkatesh are still two of the most qualified candidates. It is up to the CAC to decide whether to give Chetan and Harvinder a second chance. We will have a new selection panel by January 1st week,” a BCCI official told InsideSport.

Who are frontrunners?
Venkatesh Prasad (South Zone): Venkatesh Prasad is the most qualified candidate to apply for the role. The former India pacer from Karnataka has played 33 Tests and 161 ODIs could become the new chairman of selectors. Chetan Sharma has played 26 Tests for India. With more Test experience, Prasad will surpass him if he cracks the interview.
Chetan Sharma (North Zone): The current chairman of selection committee Chetan Sharma is also one of the favourites. With not many strong candidates, Chetan despite getting the boot from the BCCI is set to continue. Whether he will remain the chairman will depend on Venkatesh Prasad’s selection.
Salil Ankola (West Zone): From the West Zone, Salil Ankola is the strongest candidate with Ajit Agarkar showing no interest this time. The former India pacer will be a favourite if he gets the backing of treasurer Ashish Shelar, the strongman of Mumbai cricket.
SS Das (East Zone): With not much competition in East Zone, the former India batter is favourite to replace Debasish Mohanty. He was set to come in last year. But Mohanty pipped him in the race.
Harvinder Singh (Central Zone): With experience and being one of the strongest candidates from Central Zone, Harvinder Singh is likely to retain his place.
