Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) officials have confronted Cheteshwar Pujara regarding his exclusion from Team India squad for West Indies (WI) series. The news of Pujara being dropped from Team India has caused a huge uproar among the fans and former cricketers alike.
According to Cricbuzz, the Indian team management approached Cheteshwar Pujara to explain why he was left off the roster for the two-Test series against the West Indies.
Although it’s unclear who spoke to him about his non-selection, it appears to have been either coach Rahul Dravid, the selectors, or both.
Pujara, who has participated in 103 Test matches, is believed to have been advised that young players will be given a chance. It’s unclear if the talk had any bearing on his choice to participate in the Duleep Trophy.
But after this, Pujara made himself immediately available for the West Zone side for the multi-day competition that will begin in a few days.
Cheteshwar Pujara: The Wall has fallen!
Due to his patchy results in the format, Pujara, a stalwart of the Test squad, was left out. Young players like Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ruturaj Gaikwad have been given the chance to compete for the third spot in his place.
Given Pujara’s average of 32 during the previous World Test Championship (WTC) cycle, during which he played 17 Tests, many people are not surprised by his absence.
It’s important to note that Pujara was also benched from the team prior to the February home series against Sri Lanka.
He did, however, come back strongly in July following a standout performance with Sussex in the County Championships.
India’s Test squad: Rohit Sharma (c), Shubman Gill, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Virat Kohli, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Ajinkya Rahane (vc), KS Bharat (wk), Ishan Kishan (wk), Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Shardul Thakur, Axar Patel, Mohd. Siraj, Mukesh Kumar, Jaydev Unadkat, Navdeep Saini.
