Sydney vs Perth LIVE – Will Steve Smith Play? The Sydney team’s request to draft Steve Smith in the squad has been declined twice. But now being further hampered by Covid & injury, the Sixers believe they have an even stronger case for Smith to play against the Perth Scorchers in the decider.
- Captain Moises Henriques has calf injury & he himself has declared that he could not guarantee he would be fit to back up at Marvel Stadium.
- Earlier, Steve O’Keefe (calf) and Jordan Silk (hamstring) limped off in the fielding innings and both are in serious doubt for Friday.
- Josh Philippe and the Edwards brothers have Covid
- Dan Hughes is also doubtful with ankle strain.
BBL Finals LIVE – Steve Smith Question? The Sixers’ growing casualty ward leaves the club with little flexibility ahead of the most important match of the year.
The Sixers believe Smith should be allowed to play given there is a free spot on their list and the array of injuries they’ve had to deal with.
As per CA’s exemption policy, had Smith been a wicketkeeper, he would have been allowed to replace Philippe from outside the squad.
Though CA sources have privately conceded they would also like Smith to play, the governing body fears the integrity of the competition will be at risk if rules are changed without a consensus from the states.
BBL Finals LIVE: Perth Scorchers sweating about Mitch Marsh’s fitness?
Injury concerns are not limited to Sydney Sixers. The Perth Scorchers are also sweating around availability of Mitch Marsh.
Mitch Marsh suffered a minor hamstring tweak on Saturday night but Scorchers feel he should be available for BBL Finals.
