Cricket Australia (CA) on Thursday unveiled the schedule for the 13th edition of the Big Bash League (BBL). The tournament, which features eight teams, will consist of 44 thrilling matches, including 40 league games and four knockout fixtures.
Brisbane Heat, the runners-up of the previous season, will kick off the tournament with a home game against Melbourne Stars at the Gabba on December 7.
Defending champions, Perth Scorchers, will commence their campaign on December 10 against Melbourne Renegades.
This season, the BBL has undergone a slight alteration, with the number of matches reduced to 44.
Unlike the previous edition, teams will participate in ten league games instead of 14, allowing for a more streamlined and intense competition.
Additionally, there will be no matches played on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day, allowing players and fans to spend time with their loved ones during the festive season.
One of the highlights of the schedule is the Boxing Day extravaganza on December 26, featuring a double-header. Sydney Sixers will host Melbourne Stars, while Perth Scorchers will take on Melbourne Renegades.

BBL 2023 Schedule
Another significant change in the BBL 2023-24 season is the revamped format for the knockout stages. In previous years, the top five teams from the BBL Points Table qualified for the knockouts. However, this time, the top four teams on the points table will battle it out for a place in the final stages of the tournament.
Teams finishing in the first and second positions will face off in ‘The Qualifier’ on January 19, vying for a direct passage to the Final.
Meanwhile, the third and fourth-ranked teams will clash in ‘The Knockout.’ The winner of ‘The Knockout’ will then compete against the losing team from ‘The Qualifier’ in ‘The Challenger’ on January 22.
Finally, the winner of ‘The Challenger’ will earn the coveted second spot in the final and will go head-to-head against the victorious team from ‘The Qualifier’ on January 24.
