However, knowing that Silk cannot run two runs off a single ball, the Sydney outfits suddenly decided to retire the batsman and bring on Jay Lenton who easily ran two runs and brought victory to his side.
Jay Lenton was a member of the Sixers coaching unit who was forced to play the game as a majority of players were out of the team owing to injuries and the Covid crisis. Though Sydney didn’t break any rules of the game, commentators and cricket experts claimed that the incident was not in accordance with the spirit of the game.
The Sydney Sixers got into the field after being rejected twice by Cricket Australia to allow Star player Steve Smith to join their squad.

Other incidents which changed the entire complexion of the game involved Hayden Kerr. The young all-rounder hit a magnificent 98 not out off just 58 deliveries and led his side to victory and book their spot in the finals. Initially, Kerr was saved after Alex Carey failed to stump him out. As if that was not a lifeline, Kerr got a second lifeline when batting on 16 and his catch was dropped by Adelaide Strikers captain Renshaw.
