Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp wants to bring the 24-year-old defender to Anfield. The Frenchman joined Barcelona from Sevilla last year for £46million. Kounde has featured for 38 times for the club and was part of Barcelona’s La Liga triumph.
The main reason to departure is Kounde has often been played at right-back by Barcelona’s manager and he wants to play in the middle of the defense. Barcelona are looking to lower their wage bill but it’s confirmed that they won’t accept less than £52million for their right-back.
Kounde had a good start to his Barcelona career but later his performance saw a dip. Xavi changed his position in defense and it wasn’t the preference of the Frenchman. Kounde isn’t happy that Barca President Joan Laporta hasn’t backed up his promise to let him play in his preferred position which is centre.
Meanwhile, Jurgen Klopp is busy in rebuilding the Liverpool squad ahead of the new season. Midfield is his main priority but he will also focus on other areas. Liverpool’s defense has been average this season. Joel Matip and Joe Gomez failed to replicate the best version in 2022/23. Trent Alexander-Arnold is Liverpool’s first choice right back, that means Kounde would be given centre-back role at Anfield.
