About Barabati Stadium
One of the oldest stadiums in India, Cuttack’s Barabati Stadium, has given cricket fans many wonderful memories by hosting numerous international matches. As the home ground for the Odisha cricket team, it is noteworthy that the stadium is a multipurpose venue, hosting a variety of events, including cricket, football, field hockey, and concerts.
Being one of the oldest grounds, it saw its first big match in 1961 when the MCC played against East Zone. Later, in 1974-75, the West Indies toured and played a side game at the venue. The big moment came in 1982 when Barabati Stadium hosted its first international cricket match, where India defeated England to win the ODI series 2-1.
The stadium hosted its first Test match in 1987, featuring India and Sri Lanka. However, not all memories have been positive. In 2015, during a T20I clash between India and South Africa, the stadium faced crowd disruptions that drew widespread attention.
Despite these challenges, Barabati Stadium remains a historic and celebrated venue in Indian cricket.
