Bangladesh Cricket: Follow live updates – Bangladeshi batter Mominul Haque stepped down from his role as the Test captain of the Tigers on Tuesday. This decision comes after Bangladesh’s poor run of form in Test cricket and the captain’s own lack of runs. Follow Bangladesh Cricket live updates with InsideSport.IN.
Notably, pressure was high on Mominul after Bangladesh recently lost the two-match Test series against Sri Lanka by a 1-0 margin. Previously, the Tigers had also lost 2-0 against South Africa last month, while their skipper has failed to show any kind of form with the bat.

Justifying his decision, Mominul said “When you play well, even if the team doesn’t win, you are still in a position to motivate them. I felt that captaining a side is tough when I am not scoring and team is not winning. I think it is best to quit the captaincy.”
“I feel I should focus on my batting. It wasn’t a hard decision. A captain has to contribute otherwise it brings a lot of pressure. The board president told me to stay on but I don’t want to be the captain,” he further added.

Meanwhile, despite rumours stating otherwise, the now-former Test skipper has confirmed that the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) did not influence his decision in any way. Previously, the BCB themselves cleared their stance by saying they are leaving the decision to the player himself.
“Our BCB president sat with him but the discussion is not yet over. Because he is abroad the meeting could not take but when he arrives they will sit to discuss about his future,” Jalal Yunus, chairman of the BCB cricket operations said before Mominul formally announced his decision.
