Swiss Open: PV Sindhu, Lakshya Sen crash out, Srikanth, Treesa-Gayatri advance to next round

PV Sindhu won the first game against Tomoka Miyazaki of Japan but lost the next two games to crash out of the tournament.

After losing in the women’s singles pre-quarterfinals in Basel, top Indian shuttler PV Sindhu was eliminated from the Swiss Open 2024 badminton competition. In the match that lasted an hour and nineteen minutes, Sindhu succumbed to a 21-16, 19-21, 16-21 loss to Tomoka Miyazaki of Japan.

Another shuttler Lakshya Sen suffered similar fate when he was beaten by Chia Hao Lee in straight sets (21-17, 21-15) in the round of 16.

However, Kadambi Srikanth beat Lee Zee Jia 21-16, 21-15 to set himself up for a match against Chia Hao Lee in the quarter finals.

Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand, the Indian women’s doubles team, defeated Priya Konjengbam and Shruti Mishra in straight sets on Thursday to advance to the Swiss Open quarterfinals.

In just thirty-six minutes, the eighth-seeded bronze medalists from the Commonwealth Games easily defeated fellow Indians Priya and Shruti, who were ranked 75th in the world, 21-10 21-12.
