Men’s Singles

Jonatan Christie defeated Chou Tien Chen to advance to the semifinals. The Indonesian started the contest with a 9-1 lead in the first game and continued his dominance as he sealed the first game 21-13. In the second game, however Chou Tien Chen bounced back as he dominated with a 21-12 victory in the second game and took the contest into the deciding game.

The Taiwanese continued with a 5-1 lead, however Christie came back with six straight points on the trot to go up 10-8. From then on, the Indonesian managed to maintain his lead as he won the game 21-17. With that he sealed his second straight victory in the group stage and advanced to the semis.

Anthony Ginting sealed the top spot in the group with three successive wins. He defeated Singapore’s Loh Kean Yew 21-12, 23-21. Loh Kean Yew won his first match in the tournament but entered the contest after losing against Jonatan Christie. With yet another victory, he has bowed out from the tournament.

In the other group, HS Prannoy sealed a victory against Viktor Axelsen in three games. Despite the win, the Indian failed to advanced to the semis as he faced defeats in his first two group matches. In the other match in the group, Japan;s Kodai Naraoka sealed a straight game victory against China’s Lu Guangzu. With the win, he has advanced to the semifinal in his maiden appearance in the tournament.

Women’s Singles

World No.1 Akane Yamaguchi has advanced to the semifinal as she defeated Gregoria Tunjung. Yamaguchi won the first game 21-15. However like her previous matches, Tunjung fought hard to grab the second set 21-13 and took the match into the deciding set. However Ymaguchi had the last laugh as she sealed the match and advanced to the next stage. In the same group, Chen Yufei sealed the other semifinal spot as she defeated South Korea’s An Se-young in straight games 21-16, 21-12.

Meanwhile, top seed He Bingjio maintained her unbeaten streak as she defeated Busanan Ongbamrungphan in three games. The Chinese looked down and out in the first game as she lost it 8-21. The second game was also a very closely fought one and Bing Jiao held her nerves to win it 22-20.

Tai Tzu Ying and Ratchanok Intanon will be facing each other. Both the players have one win each and the winner of this contest will progress to the next stage.

Men’s Doubles

In the Men’s Doubles, Indonesia’s Fajar Alfian and Mohammad Ardianto after advancing to the semis already lost their last league game against Malaysia’s Teo/Ong in three games 21-10, 17-21, 19-21. With the victory, the Malaysian pair too has advanced to the next stage.

Other Indonesian duo Mohammad Ahsan and Hendra Setiawan too lost theur last league game to China’s Ou/Liu duo. The Chinese pair has now finished the group at the top spot as they are unbeaten in the tournament.

Women’s Doubles

In the Women’s Doubles, Thai pair Jongkolphan Kititharakul and Rawinda Prajongjai defeated  Malaysia’s Hoo-Lim duo. Thailand’s Aimsaard sisters too won the contest on the day against South Korea’s Kim/Jeong duo. China’s Chen-Jia duo won their third successive match as they defeated Indonesia’s Rahayu/Ramadhanti pair.

In mixed doubles, local interest Dechapol Puavaranukroh/Sapsiree Taerattanachai remained unbeaten in the group stage as they beat China’s Huang/Wang in straight games. The other Chinese pair of Huang/Zheng were given a walkover by Malaysia’s Goh Soon Huat / Shevon Lai.
