Australia New Coach: Andrew McDonald is currently acting as the interim coach of Australia following Justin Langer’s departure in February. Notably, the Kangaroos have been impressive under the stewardship of McDonald. Langer’s former assistant, McDonald started his stint with a 3-1 win in a five-match T20I series against Sri Lanka. Following that series, Australia won a Test series and a one-off T20I against Pakistan, suffering defeat only in the ODI series.

Australia New Coach: According to reports in News Corp, the Cricket Australia officials are satisfied with the performance of the team during McDonald’s short reign and are all set to offer him a full-time position. CA also interviewed Trevor Bayliss, the former ICC World Cup-winning coach for the role, but have decided to offer the position to McDonald instead.

McDonald demands clarity from CA
While CA might have zeroed in on Andrew McDonald to be their new head coach, the former Rajasthan Royals head coach and Royal Challengers Bangalore bowling coach expects a bit of clarity from the board.
“Do I want the job? It depends on what it looks like, how Cricket Australia see the job unfolding and I will probably get more detail and clarity moving forward. There was no great detail or clarity on what the role would look like,” he had previously stated.
Australia’s next assignment is against Sri Lanka in June. They will play three T20Is, five ODIs and two Tests against the Lankan Lions. CA would want McDonald to start his work at the earliest, and it now remains to be seen whether the Victorian would accept the role.
