Kidambi Srikanth vs Kenta Nishimoto
Kidambi Srikanth will face Japan’s Kenta Nishimoto in the first round at the Australian Open. Both the players are entering the tournament after facing second round exit at the Japan Open last week.
The upcoming contest will be the ninth time both the players will be facing each other. Srikanth leads the head-to-head record 5-3. However in their last two matches, Nishimoto clinched victories.
HS Prannoy vs Lee Cheuk Yiu
Prannoy is looking for a revenge against Lee Cheuk Yiu. At the Korea Open, Prannoy was ousted from the second round after losing against the Hong Kong lad.
Both the players have faced each other three times so far. Prannoy leads the head-to-head record 2-1. Yiu meanwhile is looking to replicate his Korea Open performance against the Indian and hopes to level the head-to-head record.
Lakshya Sen vs Kiran George
Lakshya Sen and Kiran George will set up an exciting first round clash at the Australian Open. World No.11 Lakshya has been in terrific form since his Canada Open title winning performance. He is entering the tournament after making it to the semifinal at the Japan Open and Korea Open.
Kiran George meanwhile last won a match in the BWF Tour at the Thailand Open, where he made it to the quarterfinal. Since then he has suffered first round defeats at the Taipei Open and Korea Open.
Both the players will meet for the eight time in their career. Lakshya Sen has so far won all of the seven matches and will yet again be the firm favourite.
PV Sindhu vs Ashmita Chaliha
PV Sindhu will face Ashmitha Chaliha in the first round at the Australian Open. After successive first round defeats, World No.17 SIndhu is looking for a turnaround of fortunes.
Youngster Ashmita Chaliha too is coming off after a first round defeat at the Korea Open. She will however be the underdog against her senior compatriot. They last met at the India Open last year and Sindhu won the contest 21-7, 21-18.
