Stefanos Tsitsipas vs Tallon Griekspoor

Stefanos Tsitsipas extended his perfect set record on Friday at the 2023 Australian Open to 9-0 by moving past Tallon Griekspoor into the fourth round. In a 6-2, 7-6(5), 6-3 victory, the Greek saved a set point late in set two before powering through the finish in Rod Laver Arena.

The win sets up a Sunday showdown with Jannik Sinner, a rematch of last year’s Melbourne quarter-final that was dominated by the Greek.

“I enjoyed fighting my way through today,” Tsitsipas said in his on-court interview. “It wasn’t easy at times. I had the crowd with me, as always. It’s always a great sensation when I’m out here.”

Daniil Medvedev vs Sebastian Korda

American young gun Sebastian Korda stunned former world number one Daniil Medvedev 7-6(7) 6-3 7-6(4) in a thrilling contest to evict the losing finalist of the last two years from the Australian Open in the third round on Friday.

The 22-year-old took the game to the Russian seventh seed from the start on Rod Laver Arena, firing winners from both sides, mixing it up with some serve-volley and lofting a few delightful drop shots. “Just go for it!” Korda said when asked his game plan for what was the biggest win of his career.

“It was an unbelievable match,” he added. “I kind of knew what I had to do and I stuck with it even when I was going up and down with the emotions. “But I’m thrilled. I played amazing, it was an unbelievable match for me.”

Iga Swiatek vs Cristina Bucsa

Top seed Iga Swiatek continued to carve her way through the Australian Open draw on Friday, dismantling Cristina Bucsa 6-0 6-1 in bright sunshine on the Margaret Court Arena to reach the fourth round. The 21-year-old world number one, who is looking to add a first Melbourne Park crown to the French and U.S. Open titles she won last year, was all business as she whipped through the first set in 23 minutes.

World number 100 Bucsa had simply no answer to Swiatek’s all-court game and the Spaniard only managed to avoid the dreaded ‘double bagel’ 6-0 6-0 scoreline by holding her last service game.

Swiatek should face a tougher test in Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina in the last 16 after the big-serving Kazakh earlier upset last year’s losing finalist Danielle Collins.

Coco Gauff vs Bernarda Pera

18-yera old Coco Gauff too has had a dominant run in the Australian Open so far. She is yet to drop a set as she has clinched victories against Karolina Siniakova and Emma Raducanu in the first two rounds. The seventh seed will next take on her compatriot Bernarda Pera in the third round.

Pera has made it to the third round at the Australian Open for the first time since 2018. She defeated 29th seed Quinwen heng in straight sets in the second round.
