She lost to Maddison Inglish in straight sets 6-4, 6-2 in a game that lasted an hour & 23 minutes. The Canadian joins Petra Kvitova & Coco Gauff among key players who have crashed out in the opening round. Out of form Emma Raducanu, US Open 2021 champion, will be in action later today. Petra Kvitova loses in the opening round: Two-time Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova crashed out in the first round after a 2-6, 2-6 defeat to Sorana Cirstea. Kvitova, a 2019 Australian Open finalist, was toppled in just 72 minutes by Cirstea, who is ranked No.38 in the world. It continued a stunning run of form for Cirstea, who also defeated the World No.20 at last year’s Australian Open.

Australian Open LIVE Results: Simona Halep beats Magdalena French- Former World No.1 Simona Halep got her 2022 Australian Open campaign off to a victorious start, as Romanian gritted past Magdalena Frech of Poland 6-4, 6-3 in their first-round battle.
In their sole prior meeting, Halep had defeated Frech with the loss of only two games on the clay courts of Prague in 2020. The two-time Grand Slam champion has now improved to 6-0 on the season thus far, having won her 23rd career WTA singles title at Melbourne Summer Set 1 two weeks ago. Halep is seeking her first Australian Open title, which would go with her 2018 Roland Garros and 2019 Wimbledon crowns.
Australian Open LIVE Results: Emma Raducanu beats Sloane Stephens – Britain’s teenage sensation and US Open champion Emma Raducanu cleared a dangerous first-round hurdle at the Australian Open, seeing off experienced American Sloane Stephens 6-0 2-6 6-1 in a topsy-turvy contest on Tuesday. Raducanu raced through the opening set in 17 minutes, leaking only four points.
But the 2017 U.S. Open champion Stephens finally found her rhythm and reeled the set off four games to force a decider. While things looked ominous for the 19-year-old Raducanu, she kept her cool, settling down and finding another gear to dominate the decider with some precision baseline hitting as the Stephens game unravelled again.
