It was Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc who got the better of defending World Champion Max Verstappen to take the pole. Max and his fellow compatriot of Red Bull, Sergio Perez take second and third respectively. Mercedes did fair decently as Lewis Hamilton and George Russell block out the third row behind McLaren’s Lando Norris who took a surprise fourth.

Oh No – Fernando
What could have been a mega lap by the two-time World Champion Fernando Alonso, saw the Spaniard crashing out of the Q3 session when Alonso failed to control his car and rammed into the barriers in turn 11. Alpine alongside McLaren looked like one of the most improved teams heading into the Australian GP 2022. After hitting a purple middle sector, Alonso failed to downshift his car going wide into Turn 11.
Australian GP: Fernando Alonso crashes at the barriers in Turn 11With a hint of understeer, Alonso complained about failing to go down to 3rd gear from 4th and thus saw his blue-pink Alpine right into the barriers. In what could have been a potential pole for Alonso in 151 races, saw a DNF next to his name. However, Alonso will start the race tomorrow in the 10th position and we can expect the veteran racer to gain up a few places, unlike his teammate Esteban Ocon had a tremendous race pace.

Nicholas Latifi Does What He Does Best!
it isn’t a proper race weekend without Nicholas Latifi of Williams being involved in an accident. Jokes apart, Latifi was involved in a major crash with Lance Stroll of the Aston Martin which drew out the red flag in Q1.
Australian GP: Nicholas Latifi had a major crash with Lance Stroll in Q1 sessionLatifi understood that Stroll was on a hot lap and paved the way for the Aston Martin car to pass. However, Stroll dismissed the hot lap right after passing Latifi and slowed down to a considerable extent. Latifi realizing that Stroll would hold him up for a while saw a gap by the right side of the track and pushed the throttle.

Valtteri 103 Bottas
Valtteri Bottas is one of the most underrated drivers on the grid. As seen time and again, on his day, not even the 7-time world champion Lewis Hamilton can match his race pace. However, Bottas has always been a driver who really shined on Saturdays. Being an expert in qualifying he managed to reach Q3 103 times which sadly came to an end today.

His 103 record of making it to Q3 is a modern age record after the rules were changed. The 4-time World Champion, ‘The Professor’ Alain Prost holds the all-time record for reaching the top 10, a record 109 times.
Bottas was upset after crashing out of Q2 and rightfully so. Anyone who comes close to such a big achievement and then falls out by a short margin is bound to hurt. We feel your pain Valtteri.
