Starc missed the opening Test in Nagpur because of the finger injury he suffered in late December. He remained at home for the start of the tour but has flown to Delhi and will train today on his own. Australia’s physical performance coach Aaron Kellett has flown to Delhi to oversee Starc’s training while the rest of the team remained in Nagpur to train before travelling to Delhi on Tuesday.
Boland wasn’t originally set to play the first Test in Nagpur. Josh Hazlewood’s Achilles issue opened the door for him. He bowled 17 overs for just 34 runs in India’s innings of 400. He bowled one of the best fast-bowling spells of the match on the second morning, delivering three maidens in six overs and conceding just three runs while bowling to the in-form Rohit Sharma. His ability to slow the scoreboard down helped Todd Murphy pick up two wickets at the other end.

Three spinners in Delhi?
In the first Test match, Australia lost to India by an inning and 132 runs. However, the Australian spinner scalped a total of 8 wickets out of 10. The debutant Todd Murphy took an impressive 7 wickets in his first Test match. The pitch at Arun Jaitley Stadium provides a good batting surface but as the game progresses spinners may come into play. As seen in Nagpur, how destructive can spinners be on a turning track, Australia will definitely look to play three spinners in the upcoming match.
In the second Test match, Ashton Agar may come in the place of Matt Renshaw. Agar is a slow Left-arm Orthodox bowler and will be handy with the bat also. He may bat at number eight with the skipper coming in at seven. All-rounder Cameron Green is still in doubt and star pacer Josh Hazlewood appears to miss the second Test match.
What to expect from IND AUS 2nd Test:
- Mitchell Starc will join Pat Cummins for the pace bowling attack.
- Scott Boland may be given rest to make space for Mitchell Starc.
- Boland will still be the backup because Starc is coming back from an injury.
- Hence, Boland has to spend time on the bench.
- Australia will think about playing with 3 spinners.
- Ashton Agar may join Nathan Lyon and Todd Murphy.
- Matt Renshaw may be rested for Agar.
- Renshaw got out on a duck in the first inning and scored just 2 runs in the second inning.
- All-rounder Cameron Green is still doubtful.
- Josh Hazlewood appears to miss 2nd Test.
