Mitchell Starc struck in the third over as Rory Burns (4) failed to impress again. Three overs later, debutant Michael Neser sent Haseeb Hameed packing for six runs.
Earlier, in a late onslaught from the tail-enders fired the Aussies to 473 for the loss of 9 wickets. Debutant Michael Nesser scored 35 off 24, while Mitchell Starc stayed unbeaten on 39 off 39.
England looked set to shift the momentum in their favour after Ollie Robinson, Joe Root and Ben Stokes struck to get rid of centurion Marnus Labuschagne, Travis Head and Cameron Green in the first session. However, a detrimental innings from stand-in captain Steve Smith foiled the plans of the visitors. The right-hander missed on his hundred by 7 runs but did enough to put his team in a strong position. He was ably supported by Alex Carey (51)

With most of the firepower remaining the Aussies will be eyeing a mammoth first innings total that looks pretty much imminent.
However, England will be eying to make the most of the conditions especially with some help with the new balls. The tourists will also be hoping for some better outings in the field. Joe Root and Co was pretty looked pretty much ordinary in the field and dropped multiple catches.
