AUS vs ENG 1st Test: Australia lead by 196 runs at Day 2 stumps- Australia made a great start to Day 2 with the bat. David Warner (94) and Marnus Labuschagne (74) made the most of the first innings. While Warner got a lifeline after Ben Stokes’ no-ball, Labuschagne looked impressive for his fifty. Travis Head then went to score an unbeaten century in the final session to hurt England despite multiple blows. He played like a One Day International and scored 112 runs off just 95 balls that comprised 13 fours and a couple of sixes. Follow InsideSport.IN for AUS vs ENG LIVE updates.
As a result, Australia went to take a massive lead of 196 runs with 3 wickets in hand. They would look to stretch the lead to 250 and then put England under pressure. Meanwhile, Ollie Robinson brought back England in the match with crucial wickets. Steve Smith, Alex Carey departed cheaply at scores of just 3 and 12 runs.
At stumps, Australia’s score read 343/7 with the hosts extending their lead to 196 runs. Head (112*) and Mitchell Starc (10*) are currently unbeaten at the crease. Resuming the third and final session at 193/3, Australia lost back-to-back wickets of David Warner (94) and Cameron Green (0) and were reduced to 195/5. Warner and Green were dismissed by Ollie Robinson.
Alex Carey and Travis Head then got together at the crease and the duo put on 41 runs for the sixth wicket, however, this stand was cut short by Chris Woakes as he dismissed Carey (12) in the 65th over.
Pat Cummins also departed after playing a 12-run knock but Head played a counter-attacking inning and he went on to bring up his century, further consolidating Australia’s position in the match.

Jos Buttler and Ollie Pope tried to fight their way through with a counter-attacking partnership but were sent back to the pavilion in quick succession in what was a day to remember for the Aussies. However, the rest of the Day 1 was washed out due to rain and the hosts will now begin their inning on Day 2.
Australia will have their tails up with England missing the services of both Stuart Broad and James Anderson for the series opener. While Anderson was rested for the game, Broad was not picked, with Root opting for the trio of Chris Woakes, Mark Wood and Ollie Robinson with Ben Stokes for company.

The conditions are likely to be overcast with rainfall expected during the game, and England seamers led by Woakes will hope to make full use of the conditions and get some early wickets to put pressure back on the Aussies. The conditions are suitable for batting with the ball coming onto the bat nicely, and Australia will hope for a big first-innings total to pile pressure on the visitors.
