Aus playing XI – Josh Hazlewood: Meanwhile, Australia chief selector George Bailey praised Josh Hazlewood and said that the selection will not hold the pacer back from the fourth Ashes Test if the latter is fit.
“I’ve got pretty good faith in Hoff knowing his own body and trusting his own body. He’ll build up as he would before any sort of Test. He’ll talk a lot with [assistant] Andrew McDonald and [physio] David Beakley to see how he’s going. If Hoff’s confident and he says he’s right to go I think we back him in. He’s earned that trust,” said Geoge Bailey as reported by ESPNcricinfo.

AUS Playing XI:
- Mitchell Swepson has played 49 FC matches and taken 153 wickets. He has represented Australia in 7 T20Is and taken 11 wickets.
- The 28-year-old took record 32 wickets in last summer’s Sheffield Shield. While Lyon spins the ball into the RHB, Swepson turns it away.
- Steve Smith was the last leg-spinner to make Test debut back in 2010.
- The SCG has historically been a venue where Australia plays two spinners- The last being Lyon and Steve O’Keefe against Pakistan in January 2017
- Usman Khawaja will also be hopeful of getting a game after Test recall (after 2019 Ashes axe)
- Michael Neser, Jhye Richardson & Mitchell Swepson are likely to warm the bench.
- Pat Cummins might rest Mitchell Starc so any one of the above trio could get in the mix. The ace pace bowler had suffered a minor injury during the Adelaide Pink-ball Test.

With numerous heroics in Ashes, Chief selector George Bailey and his selection panel have a plethora of bowling options. Scott Boland and Jhye Richardson are both coming off five-wicket hauls
“It’s a great headache,” Bailey told reporters.
Bailey further said that Mitchell Starc will also be included in the team despite being the only quick not to miss a Test this summer.
“Your plans are constantly changing because you’ve got no idea how many overs the bowlers are going to bowl. So you’ve got to stay pretty fluid around that. Today would have been day five. So our quicks, in particular, not having as heavy a workload as they had in Adelaide and a couple of extra days off will all work in their favour,” said Bailey.
Pat Cummins has backed Swepson for Test debut. “He’s been absolutely brilliant around the squad, he was part of the T20 winning squad over in Dubai, he trains the house down, he bowls beautifully in Shield cricket and he’ll definitely get a chance one day,” Cummins said as quoted by Cricket Australia.
“It’s an Ashes series where we’re going to pick the best 11 that we think is going to win that Test match in Sydney,” he added.
