Aus Open 2022: 5 Big players chasing maiden Australian Open title in women’s singles

Daniil Medvedev

World No.2 Daniil Medvedev will be looking to win consecutive grand slams after lifting US Open title. He defeated World No.1 Novak Djokovic in the final and his current game is so far ahead of Rafael Nadal. He had reached the finals of the Australian Open last year and now he will be looking to win the silverware in Melbourne. Medvedev, however, faces stiff competition from Nadal with the latter leading the Head-to-Head stats 3:1. Meanwhile, Djokovic leads Medvedev 6:4 in overall competitions.

Alexander Zverev

World No.3 Alexander Zverev has been impressive in his career. He has defeated the likes of World No.1 Novak Djokovic on a number of occasions. He has a win-loss ratio of 193-88 in hardcourt events. The 24-year-old captured 6 ATP titles in 2021, including ATP Finals. Overall, he has won 19 ATP titles but awaits his first major and the wait could come to an end in the Australian Open 2022. Zverev has defeated Djokovic 4 times in 11 meetings, including ATP Finals in November. Meanwhile, Zverev leads Nadal 3:1 in the last 4 meetings but Overall Nadal leads 6-3.

Stefanos Tsitsipas

World No.4 Stefanos Tsitsipas made all the news when he made it to the semifinals of the Australian Open and finals at Roland Garros. He looked off-colour in Wimbledon & US Open but could win his first major at Australian Open 2022. He has a terrific 121-67 win-loss ratio in hard court events. He won a couple of ATP titles in 2021. Overall, he has 7 ATP titles to his name, including wins against Andy Murray, Alexander Zverev & Novak Djokovic. He had stunned Rafael Nadal in the Australian Open Quarterfinals last year and produced a stiff challenge to Djokovic in the French Open final.

Felix Auger-Aliassime & Carlos Alcaraz

Canada’s Felix Auger-Aliassime & Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz Garfia made headlines in US Open last year. While Felix Auger made it to the semifinals, Carlos Alcaraz, 18, reached the Quarterfinals. The latter won the Net Gen Finals title – his first ATP crown a few months ago. He had also defeated top seed Stefanos Tsitsipas in the US Open. Meanwhile, Felix Auger had reached round 4 in the Australian Open last year. He will look to capture his first major in Melbourne. The 21-year-old has win-loss ratio of 65-51 in hard court events.
