AUS beat PAK Highlights: T20 WC Semi-Final 2: Marcus Stoinis (40*) & Matthew Wade (41*) played most important knocks of their life to knock Pakistan out of the T20 World Cup. Struggling at 96-5, Australia registered comeback victory to win the game by 5 wickets. Aussies will now play New Zealand for the World Cup Trophy on Sunday. Follow LIVE Updates on InsideSport.in

Why Pakistan was left shell-shocked?

  • Australia had been struggling at 96-5, despite a belligerent 49 from David Warner, before Wade and Marcus Stoinis’ grandstand finish.
  • Pakistan were favourites with Australia needing 62 off the last five overs and 37 off the final three.
  • Wade smashed an unbeaten 41 off only 17 balls, while Stoinis finished 40 not out off 31, their remarkable stand of 81 in 6.4 overs carrying Australia home with an over to spare and silencing a largely Pakistan-supporting crowd.
  • Needing 20 off the final 10 balls, Matthew Wade was dropped by Hassan Ali before hitting the next three deliveries for six to complete a stunning pursuit of 177 in Dubai.

AUS beat PAK Highlights: Pakistan left ‘shell-shocked’ as Wade, Stoinis heroics take Australia to T20 World Cup Finals

Chasing 177, Australia got off to the worst start possible as skipper Aaron Finch (0) was sent back to the pavilion by Shaheen Shah Afridi on just the third ball of the innings. However, David Warner and Mitchell Marsh did not let the momentum drop and the score read 52/1 after the end of the sixth over.

Pakistan stormed right back into the match as Shadab Khan dismissed Marsh (28), and this brought Steve Smith to the middle. In his next over, Shadab dismissed Smith (5). At the halfway mark, Australia was at 89/3, still needing 88 runs to win from 60 balls.

Shadab continued to be the match-winner for Pakistan and he got the biggest wicket possible as he sent the set batter Warner (49) back in the hut in the 11th over. Reverse and switch hits are the go-to shot for Glenn Maxwell, but this proved his downfall in this match, and Shadab bagged his fourth wicket, to reduce Australia to 96/5 in the 13th over.

In the last five overs, Australia needed 62 runs to win. Matthew Wade and Marcus Stoinis kept on registering boundaries and in the last two overs, Aaron Finch’s side needed 22 to win. In the second last over, Hasan Ali dropped a simple catch of Wade, and it came to bite Pakistan, as Australia registered a win by five wickets. Wade scored 41 off just 17 balls.

AUS beat PAK Highlights: Earlier, sent into bat Pakistan posted 176/4 hitting Aussies’ bowlers all over the park in the second semi-final of the T20 World Cup 2021 here in Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Dubai. M Rizwan (67 off 52) and Fakhar Zaman (55* off 32) slammed the fifties for the Men in Green while skipper Babar Azam played a handy (39 off 34) runs knock at the top.

Rizwan and Zaman hit eight sixes together and went berserk at the death overs to power Pakistan to a huge total. Mitchell Starc picked two wickets for the Aussies while Pat Cummins and Adam Zampa returned with one wicket each.

@19:25 – It’s time for National Anthems for both sides

Babar Azam: We’ll have to put runs on the board and then defend it. It’s an honour to lead this bunch of players, looking forward to playing some good cricket. UAE is our backyard, we know these conditions well. No changes for us as well.

Aaron Finch: We will bowl. The wicket will not change a lot over the course of the game. The guys are relaxed, there’ll be obvious nerves. This pitch has played true right through the IPL and the World Cup, no changes.

Pak Team management had earlier asked Sarfaraz Ahmed & Haider Ali to stay ready for the game in case Rizwan & Malik fails to recover on time

In an update, the PCB said that there’s an improvement in the health of both players and a medical panel will review their fitness status before the crucial encounter.

It added that the management will announce a confirmed decision later in the day.

“We are hopeful that both the players will be in action today. They want to play in the semi-final,” Mansoor Rana, Pakistan team manager declared.

Mohd Rizwan, Shoaib Malik doubtful? T20 World Cup Semidfinals: Both Malik & Rizwan woke up with fever on Wednesday morning. As per the ICC protocols for the tournament both were immediately tested for Covid. Luckily their tests have come negative.

On advice of medical team, the duo skipped Wednesday’s practice session and were isolated from rest of the team.

The entire Pakistan squad will again be subjected to Covid test on Thursday morning.

The players will undergo a medical check up tomorrow before the match.

AUS beat PAK Highlights: Why both Malik & Rizwan are crucial for Pakistan’s hopes vs Australia? The two players are important cog in the wheel of Pakistan composition. In the ongoing world cup they have single handedly won matches for Pakistan and are one of the main reason of Babar Azam’s team unbeaten run.

While Mohd Rizwan is the third-highest run-getter, Shoaib Malik has the joint-fastest fifty to his credit this tournament.

The most important thing they bring to the table is – EXPERIENCE. They can soak up the pressure of difficult situations and give winning performances even in the most difficult situations.
