Aston Martin keen to strike as team looks to go back on top behind Red Bull

Aston Martin look to regain their mojo after their early season speed has worn off. The team admits they got things wrong, and are keen to bounce back.

Aston Martin was the biggest surprise at the start of the 2023 F1 season. The Silverstone-based team surprised one and all by jumping up to the top of the timing boards, behind Red Bull. No team has developed like this since the start of the turbo-hybrid era. Only three teams have dominated in the last decade: Mercedes, Red Bull, and Ferrari. Therefore, everyone was taken aback when Fernando Alonso challenged for the podium again.

A Competitive Fight

In 2023, the battle for the best of the rest in F1 starts from P2 in the constructor standings. Red Bull are in a league of their own, shattering records every time they hit the track. Therefore, Aston Martin, Mercedes, Ferrari, and now McLaren are now fighting for the silver trophy.

Several people have remarked how the second-fastest team keeps changing each week. While Red Bull stays ahead, they see a different challenger at every race track. Fernando Alonso was the early contender, getting podiums in 5 of the first 6 races. McLaren has staged an epic comeback after their upgrades in Austria and Great Britain. Mercedes and Ferrari have been there and thereabouts all this time.

Additionally, Red Bull has shifted its focus to 2024. This gives teams like Aston Martin a chance to close the gap and potentially cause an upset. Every place in the constructors’ championship translates to tens of millions in revenue. Therefore, the development for the rest of the season is just as important.

Belgium gave new hope

Aston Martin has been out-developed by both Mercedes and McLaren. Mike Crack admitted that some of the upgrades they put on the car made it worse. However, they were back on track in Belgium with a strong race. This gives the team hope that they can stage a comeback.

Aston Martin has new upgrades set to arrive at Zandvoort. Mike Crack and Fernando Alonso are hoping they will be able to finish on the podium once again. Will they be able to do so? Will anyone other than Red Bull win this season? Keep following us to find out.
