Aston Martin F1 Director Veils Challenging Words Towards Red Bull Pace Advantage

The Silverstone outfit has made significant strides over the course of one season.

The Aston Martin F1 team has been the success story of the season so far. The Silvertsone-based outfit from being a mid-range team is now a force to reckon with at the front. Fernando Alonso has made podium finishes a habit and fans are loving this vintage look on him. Most recently, the Spaniard finished on the second step of the podium in the Canadian GP after an epic battle with Lewis Hamilton which he dominated for the most part.

After a below-par outing in Circuit de-Barcelona, Aston Martin brought significant changes in the AMR23 in Montreal. It was featuring a heavily revised side pod and floor. Moreover, the low-speed corner circuit is better suited to the car, giving them an edge over close rival Mercedes. As of now, the team stands third in the constructors’ championship, with 154 points this season so far.

Though the team is convincingly closer to Mercedes in the rankings, the gap with Red Bull is getting wider with every passing race. Two obvious factors in this are an immense pace advantage that the Milton-Keynes team holds and a lack of performance by Lance Stroll across the race weekends. However, the team is planning a series of upgrades to counter the DRS advantage of Red Bull.

Aston Martin working on cutting a Red Bull DRS-Advantage

The Silverstone outfit has made significant strides over the course of one season. Last season, the team finished 7th in the constructors’ championship with just 55 points in total. However, this season has been a dream one for the team. The men from Silverstone are flying high and there is no stopping them. Recently, Aston Martin’s Performance Director Tom McCullough discussed the future course of action and tackling the Red Bull advantage.

“That has been an area of focus for us, so we’re sort of working at that every upgrade we bring to the car. It’s all tied to helping the efficiency under the DRS switch so we’re making further steps on that all the time and this is a little step on that,” said McCullough

“Any update on the car is just focused on having more efficient downforce, especially in the areas where maybe we weren’t quite as strong as we were before. Maybe some of the updates we’ve got on the car will suit some other tracks even more than they suit [Canada],” added the team director.
