After a solid showing at the Asian Games, where the Indian contingent bagged over 100 medals, a lot is expected from the Asian Para Games as well, which are scheduled to start in Hangzhou, China on October 22nd. India is sending a contingent of 309 athletes, across 17 sports, and would be hoping to better their medals tally of 72 from the last edition.

A total of 43 nations, affiliated with the National Paralympic Committee, will participate in the highly anticipated Asian Para Games 2023. This grand event will witness the gathering of more than 3,000 talented para-athletes who will go head-to-head in 22 sporting disciplines. It will be
spread across 19 venues.
India’s participation in the 4th Asian Para Games will be spread across 17 sporting disciplines, namely, Archery, Athletics, Badminton, Blind Football, Boccia, Canoe, Chess, Cycling, Judo, Lawn Bowls, Powerlifting, Rowing, Shooting, Swimming, Table Tennis, Taekwondo, and Wheelchair
Fencing. Out of these, 5 disciplines — Canoe, Blind Football, Lawn Bowls, Rowing, and Taekwondo — will see Indian representation for the very first time.
The Games will also serve as an important stop on the road to the Paris 2024 Paralympics, which will take place next year. The Indian contingent is poised for an outstanding performance, led by the 2020 Paralympic gold medalists, Avani Lekhara and Sumit Antil. These exceptional athletes have become sources of immense pride for the nation, and their remarkable achievements have garnered international recognition.
Shuttler Parul Parmar and shooter Amit Saroha will be the flag bearers for India at the event.
