Asian Games: Table Tennis Squad –Two-time Commonwealth Games Gold medallist Sharath Kamal will lead a 10-member Indian Table Tennis squad at the upcoming Asian Games. The 19th edition of the Asian Games will get underway from 23rd September at Hangzhou, China. The 10-member Indian squad comprises five players each in Men and Women’s category. The Table Tennis Federation of India (TTFI) also has named four reserve players.

Apart from Sharath Kamal, the Men’s squad also has the experienced G Sathiyan and India’s No.1 ranked player Harmeet Desai. Youngsters Manav Thakur and Manush Shah complete the squad. Snehit and Sanil Shetty meanwhile will be the reserve players.
Manika Batra will be leading the women’s squad. Sreeja Akula, Suthirtha Mukherjee, Ayikha Mukherjee and Divya Chitale are also part of the young squad that has been named for the continental event. The two reserves in the Women’s team are Archana Kamath and Reeth Rishya.

Sharath Kamal and Sathiyan will pair up in the Men’s Doubles. While Manav Thakkar and Manush Shah will be the second Indian pair. Meanwhile Manika Batra will not feature in the Women’s Doubles. Suthirtha Mukherjee and Ayhika Mukherjee are set to pair up. While Sreeja Akula will team up with Diya Chitale.
In the Mixed Doubles, Manika Batra will team up with G Sathiyan. While, Sreeja Akula and Harmeet Desai will be the other Indian pair.
Performance in 2018 Asian Games
In the 2018 Asian Games at Jakarta, the Indian team created history. The men’s team comprising Sharath Kamal, G Sathiyan, Harmeet Desai, Manav Thakkar and Anthony Amalraj won the bronze medal. It was India’s first-ever medal in Table Tennis in Asian Games history. Sharath Kamal then sealed yet another podium finish in Mixed Doubles. He partnered with Manika Batra and the duo won the bronze in the Mixed Doubles.

India will look to better their show in the upcoming Asian Games. The squad named for the upcoming event also featured in the recently concluded Asian Table Tennis Championships. The Indian Men’s team won the bronze medal in the event.
