Asian Games: Manu Bhaker, Esha Singh & Rhythm Sangwan win gold in 25m pistol team

The trio finished on top of the podium with a score of 1759. This is India's fourth gold medal in this edition of the Asian Games

Asian Games: India clinched its fourth gold medal in the Asian Games 2023. Women’s 25m pistol shooting trio of Manu Bhaker, Esha Singh and Rhythm Sangwan finished on the top of the podium in the team event with a score of 1759 on Wednesday, 27th September.

This is India’s second medal on the day,. Earlier, India’s Women’s 50m Rifle 3 positions team won the silver medal. The team comprising Sift Kaur Samra, Ashi Chouksey and Manini Koushik shot a total of 1764 points in the qualification to finish second on the podium.

In the 25m pistol team event, the cumulative scores of a country’s shooting trio are calculated. The Indian trio finished ahead of China after two days of qualification in both precision and rapid. The hosts won the silver medal with a score of 1756. South Korea meanwhile won the bronze with a score of 1742.

On Tuesday, Manu finished at the top spot with a score of 294 (14x) in precision. Esha was joint-second with 292 (9x), while Rhythm had 290 (6x) and was at 11th. Overall, India also led the table.

Overall after both the qualification rounds on Wednesday, Manu Bhaker finished on the top spot with a score of 590 (28x inner 10s). Esha with 586 points ended up in the fifth place, while Rhythm Sangwan finished seventh. Top eight qualify for the final.

However Rhythm Sangwan missed the cut as only two shooters from a country are allowed to compete in the final. Manu and Esha will be in action in the final at 12 PM IST.

This is India’s second gold medal in shooting. Earlier in the tournament. the 10m air rifle men’s trio – Aishwary Pratap Singh, Rudrankksh Patil and Divyansh Panwar finished on the top of the podium. It was also India’s first gold medal in this edition of the Asian Games.
