Asian Games: Indian shooters added a gold medal to the kitty as the Men’s 50m rifle 3 positions team finished on top at the Asian Games on Friday, 29th September 2023. The team comprising Swapnil Kusale, Aishwary Pratap SIngh Tomar and Akhil Sheoran topped the charts with a world record score of 1769. This gives India its seventh medal in the ongoing Asian Games. Meanwhile, the Women’s 10m pistol team also bagged a silver medal giving the nation a dream start on the day.

Gold – Men’s 50m Rifle 3 positions
Swapnil Kusale and Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar sealed the top two spots in the qualification. With a score of 591, both the players created the Asian Record as well as the Asian Games record. Meanwhile Akhil Sheoran was 5th with 587 points to his name.
While Swapnil and Aishwary also qualified for the individual event final, Akhil Sheoran missed out as only two shooters finishing in the Top 8 from a country are allowed in the final.
Aishwary Pratap Singh already has a 10m Air Rifle team gold and also won bronze in the individual event. Having qualified for the final at the 50m Rifle 3 positions, he will be keen to add one more medal to his name. Apart from Aishwary, only Ashi Chouksey has three medals to her name in this editon of the Asiad.
India’s best medal haul in shooting at Asian Games
The women’s 10m air pistol team of Esha Singh, Palak Gulia and Divya TS won silver with 1731 points. They finished behind China by 5 points. Esha was placed fifth with a score of 579 and Palak was seventh with 577. Divya TS meanwhile ended up in the 10th place with a score of 575.
Both Esha and Palak have qualified for the final. Like Aishwary and Ashi Chouksey, Esha too has now won three medals. Earlier she clinched the team gold in 25m pistol alongside Manu Bhaker and Rhythm Sangwan. She also bagged the individual silver in the event.
With the two medals, India now have 15 medals in shooting alone from this edition. It includes 5 gold, 5 silver and 5 bronze. This is India’s best-ever shooting medal haul at the Asian Games.
