Food is an integral part of any athlete’s regimen and at multi-nation events like the Asian Games, that aspect has been well covered. The Chinese authorities have made sure that the meals offered at the Hangzhou Games Village are not only nutritious but in line with an athlete’s diet, and also cater to the food habits of players from different nationalities. Keeping up with that, the organisers have also retained the charm of local Chinese cuisine introducing six popular dishes at the Games Village.
Food at Asian Games Village
As per the Asian Games official website, these dishes include traditional dongpo meat, sister song’s fish broth, sautéed shrimp, Beijing-style beef with scallions, garlic spare ribs, and stir-fried pork. In addition, there is a section for cold hot meals, cold meals, and beverages. There are separate sections for East Asian food, South Asian/Subcontinental food, Arabic and Middle Eastern food, as well as Continental food. The players/ officials also have the option of having food from popular, global chains.
All the food has been approved by the Olympic Council of Asia. The OCA recently released a video on X, where players from different countries talk about their favorite foods at the Asian Games village. The highlight of the video though, was India’s hockey goalkeeper Krishan Bahadur Pathak letting his preference for food known. He says, ‘INDIAN’.
Despite the best efforts, it is impossible to please everyone when it comes to food. Another video on social media shows a Malaysian journalist talking about the lack of good coffee in the Village.
