Asian Games bound players were unable to download travel documets

According to reports, the players – Nyeman Wangsu, Onilu Tega and Mepung Lamgu – were unable to download their travel documents despite being granted the accreditation from the Hangzhou Asian Games Organising Committee (HAGOC).

“Once the athletes receive the accreditation cards, it is meant that they have been cleared to travel. But surprisingly only these three players could not download the document and could not board a flight,” said an official as quoted by Hindustan Times.

The rest of the members in the Wushu Squad did not face any such problems. The Indian Wushu contingent comprises a total of 11 athletes. Apart from the three players, the rest of them boarded the flight to Hong Kong on Wednesday night. From Hong Kong, they have reached Hangzhou through a connecting flight on Thursday.

According to reports, India’s Chef-de mission for the Asiad Bhupendra Singh Bajwa took the matter to the HAGOC and the Olympic Council of Asia. There has been no response from the organisers yet on the issue. Reports further added that the three players have also requested Union Minister Kiren Rijijufor his intervention.

In July this year, Chinese embassy issued ‘stapled visas’ to the same trio of Arunachal Pradesh athletes. They were about to participate in the World University Games scheduled at Chengdu, China. As a protest over China’s decision, the entire Indian Wushu contingent withdrew from the tournament.
