India’s Arjun Singh and Sunil Singh Salam bagged only the second-ever medal in Canoeing at the Asian Games. The duo clinched a bronze medal in men’s canoe double 1000m event on Tuesday, 3rd October. This is the first medal for the country on the day. It is also the 61st medal overall for India in this edition of the Asiad.

The Indian duo finished with a timing of 3:53.329 seconds in the final to bag the medal. With this third place finish, they sealed the country’s only second medal in the event in the Asian Games history.
India’s last medal in the event came way back in 1994. At the Hiroshima edition of the Games, Siji Sadanandan and Johnny Romel won a bronze medal. Arjun and Sunil’s performance on Tuesday adds to India’s growing medals tally.
Uzbekistan’s Shokhmurod Kholmuradov and Nurislom Tukhtasin Ugli won the gold clocking 3:43.796s. Kazakhstan pair of Timofey Yemelyanov and Sergey Yemelyanov bagged the silver with a timing of 3:49.991s.
