India can add two more medals to their kitty with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) ready to send squads to Asian Games 2023. After initially refusing to send squads, at the BCCI Apex Council Meeting today in Mumbai, it has got the green light. A full-strength India Women’s Cricket Team, led by Harmanpreet Kaur, will be in Hangzhou Asiad while a second-string India squad will compete for gold. The deadline for squad announcement is July 15. Asian Games 2023 begins September 23 and will clash with World Cup 2023.
“Through effective planning, communication and co-ordination, the BCCI aims to navigate those challenges successfully and contribute to the national cause by fielding a team in both men’s and women’s category in line with the Government of India’s directions,” the board said.

In three editions of Asian Games Cricket, India have never won a medal. In fact, BCCI refused to send a team in 2014 when cricket was part of it. The last time India took part in Asiad cricket was back in 1998. BCCI once again sent a second-string team but India suffered humiliation.
Now that India’s bench strength is at par or even better than England and Australia, India have a T20 squad, likely led by Shikhar Dhawan.
As Dhawan is not in plans for World Cup 2023, he is the only senior player who will be in the Asiad squad. The rest of the squad will consist of IPL performers and from IND vs IRE series.
Who will be in Asian Games 2023 squad?
The squad is going to be made up of World Cup snubs. The likes of Shikhar Dhawan and Ruturaj Gaikwad besides Ravi Bishnoi, are favourites.
IPL performers like Rinku Singh is also set for Team India call-up after failing to make it to the IND vs WI squad.
