Asia Mixed Team Badminton: India will face challenge from Malaysia as both the teams are placed in the same group at the Badminton Asia Championships 2023. The groups for the tournament were unveiled on Tuesday, 31st January 2023. India find themselves in Group B. Apart from Malaysia, Kazhakstan and hosts United Arab Emirates are also part of the group. A total of 17 teams will take part in the tournament. All the teams have been divided into four groups. Three groups comprise four teams each, while one group alone has five teams. China, Japan, Indonesia and Malaysia are the top seeded teams in the tournament. The tournament is making its return since 2019. 2021 edition of the tournament was cancelled owing to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Group A: China, South Korea, Singapore, Uzbekistan
Group B: India, Malaysia, UAE, Kazakhstan
Group C: Indonesia, Thailand, Bahrain, Syria, Lebanon
Group D: Japan, Chinese Taipei, Hong Kong, Pakistan
India Squad
World no. 8 HS Prannoy and Commonwealth Games gold medallist PV Sindhu will lead a strong Indian contingent in the Badminton Asia Mixed Team Championship this year. However World No.5 Men’s Doubles pair Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty will miss the tournament owing to an injury suffered by Satwiksairaj Rankireddy.

The Indian selection committee has decided to give singles players Lakshya Sen, H.S. Prannoy, P.V. Sindhu and men’s doubles pair of Satwiksairaj Ranikreddy and Chirag Shetty direct entry into the squad based on their superior world rankings. Other players were selected after a selection trials.
Aakarshi Kashyap has earned a spot as the second player in the Women’s Singles. In the Men’s Doubles, Krishna Prasad Garga/Vishnuvardhan Goud made it to the squad. Treesa Jolly/Gayatri Gopichand and Ashwini Bhat/Shikha Gautam will be the Women’s doubles pairs, while Ishaan Bhatnagar and Tanisha Crasto are the only Mixed Doubles pair.
