The wait is over. After months of turmoil, the Asian Cricket Council has confirmed that the Asia Cup 2023 will go ahead. The ACC has accepted PCB’s hybrid model and also taken BCCI’s reluctance to travel to Pakistan in consideration. As confirmed, Pakistan will host 4 games, while the other 9 games will be held in SriLanka, including the India vs Pakistan clash.

Asia Cup 2023: What we know so far

  • Asia Cup 2023 will kick off on August 31 with the final set on September 17
  • India, Pakistan, SriLanka, Nepal, Afghanistan and Bangladesh will participate in the tournament.
  • Pakistan will host 4 games – vs SriLanka, Nepal, Afghanistan and bangaldesh.
  • SriLanka will host the other 9 matches – inlcuding India vs Pakistan.
  • The teams are divided in two groups, with top two teams playing in a Super 4 stage.
  • Group A – India, Pakistan & Nepal
  • Group B – SriLanka, Afghanistan and Bangladesh.
  • India and Pakistan are drawn in the same group and could play each other thrice in the matter of two weeks.

“We are delighted to announce that the Asia Cup 2023 will be held from 31st August to 17th September 2023 and will see the elite teams from India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, and Nepal, compete in a total of 13 exciting ODI matches. The tournament will be hosted in a hybrid model with four matches being held in Pakistan, and the remaining nine matches being played in Sri Lanka,” the ACC said in a statement.

Earlier, PTI had reported that ACC accepted PCB’s hybrid model for the Asia Cup. As per the report, Pakistan will get matches against Nepal, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Afghanistan.

Like the previous edition, Asia Cup 2023 will feature two groups, with two teams from each group qualifying for the Super Four stage. The top two teams from the Super Four stage will then face off in the final.
