Though Sri Lanka has managed to host the series against Australia successfully, there are huge concerns regarding the upcoming Asia Cup and the Pakistan tour. The political unrest in Sri Lanka took major turns after the emergency was announced in Sri Lanka with President Gotabaya Rajapaksa fleeing the country.
Sri Lanka Cricket however is of a different opinion. Mohan de Silva, the secretary of the board in a conversation with ESPNcricinfo has claimed that cricket in the country has remained immune despite all the political unrest in the country. The Lankan side displayed fine cricketing skills and defeated Australia in the second test by an innings to level the series.

Asia Cup 2022 LIVE: Will Asia Cup 2022 be moved out due to Sri Lanka Emergency?
- The jinxed Asia Cup is now in serious doubt due to the national emergency in Sri Lanka.
- The Asian Cricket Council had already put Bangladesh on standby due to the situation.
- The tournament is slated to start on August 27.
- While Sri Lanka Cricket was determined and hopeful of successfully hosting the jinxed tournament that has been postponed twice, the conditions do not permit hosting a multi-national tournament.
- Neighbouring countries are monitoring the situation and a final decision will be taken by the ACC before the end of 3rd week of July.
- If moved out, the decision will be huge blow for SLC. The board will lose $5-6 million in revenues.
The Lanka board is quite confident about hosting the Asia Cup after having received no such pressure from the Asian Cricket Council. Recently the Pakistan squad has traveled to Sri Lanka to take part in a 2-test match series. In what comes as a piece of great news, the PCB has confirmed that the team has not been affected by the political unrest while playing the warm-up match ahead of the test series.
“As far as we are concerned, we are still very confident of hosting the tournament in Sri Lanka,” We have just hosted the Australian tour with two Tests in Galle, and Pakistan are in the country as well.” When asked if there has been any pressure to move from the ACC, he said “not really”,” said de Silva.
The Asia Cup 2022 will be a T20I tournament scheduled to take place from 27th August till 11th September. Ahead of the main tournament, a qualifier is scheduled to take place among the teams of Hong Kong, Kuwait, Singapore, and UAE. The winner of the qualifier will join the likes of Afghanistan, Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka who are the full-member Asian Teams.
