Moeen Ali said that Cook had put him everywhere from No 1 to No 9 in the batting order while defending current captain Joe Root.
It started off with a joke that Cook never gave throw-downs to players while referring to Root helping players during net sessions in the absence of coaches.
Moeen Ali said:‘Rooty has more of an emotional attachment with the players, he spends more time with the players,’ as quoted by Dailmail.
‘Are you just criticising my captaincy?’ Responded Alastair Cook on an angry note.

Ali replied: ‘I am a little bit, yeah. They’re both very different. I did do better with the bat under Cooky but with the ball I was better with Rooty.’
Cook: ‘I have to say I never dropped Mo. So he might criticise me but I never dropped him. How many times did Rooty drop you?’
Ali hit back: ‘That’s true but he also batted me from one to nine in my first year of international cricket.’
Cook didn’t stop: ‘I was giving him a chance. I couldn’t work whether he was a tail-ender or an opening batsman so I was trying to find the perfect role.’
Ali stepped back: ‘To go back to my point, Rooty was a little bit more involved with the players, in my opinion. Not that Cooky didn’t care but I think Rooty is a bit more ‘arm over the shoulder’ kind of guy.’
Cook loses cool: ‘I’m not sure how to take this anymore. I’ve just come back from a nice holiday and I’ve walked straight into Moeen Ali off his long run.’
Moeen Ali CSK: It is worth noting that Moeen Ali has been retained by Chennai Super Kings (CSK) for IPL 2022. Moeen Ali will be paid 8 Crore salary for his services.
