AUS vs ENG LIVE: Joe Root came into the Ashes as the No.1 ranked batsman in the world and was by far the leading run-getter of 2021. However, the England captain failed to replicate those heroics Down Under, as the visitors fell flat conceding the series 4-0. While Joe Root started the series well with a series of 50s, by the end his form had tapered including during the final innings in Hobart, where he was dismissed for just 11.

The Ashes 2021-22 continued Joe Root’s run of not scoring a hundred in Australia, which now stretches to 14 Tests. In 27 innings in Australia, Root has the best score of 89 and he averages a meagre 35.68, compared to his career average of 49.23. He has scored 9 half-centuries but has never managed to breach the three-figures mark.

AUS vs ENG LIVE: Joe Root also lost his ICC World No.1 rank to Australian rival Marnus Labuchangne who outperformed him in the Ashes 2021-22. Labuschagne ended the series as the second-highest run-getter with 335 runs in nine innings, while Root was third and England’s best, with 322 in 10 innings at an average of 32.20. No other England batsman features in the top five run-getters list.
