Ashes 2023: English fast bowler Ollie Robinson has been declared fit for the upcoming one-off Test match against Ireland, starting June 1. Robinson will now join the England squad after a scan revealed that no damage was done to his left ankle, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) said in a statement made on Tuesday. Robinson’s injury scare had sent English cricket fans into a frenzy as England have already lost Jofra Archer for the whole summer and there is uncertainty regarding the fitness of James Anderson and Olly Stone. “Scan results have revealed no damage to the ankle and that Robinson will join up with the England Men’s Test squad this weekend,” ECB said in a statement.

England will face Ireland at Lord’s in a one-off test starting on June 1 before the much-awaited start of the five-test Ashes series against Australia begins at Edgbaston on June 16.

England have had injury problems in the lead-up to the Ashes, with fast bowler Jofra Archer ruled out of the series and fellow quick James Anderson sidelined with a groin strain. Premier fast bowlers Olly Stone and Mark Wood are also under threat of missing the series due to fitness issues.

Australia hold the Ashes after retaining the urn with a 4-0 win over England at home in 2021-22.
