Vaughan is still involved in the Ashes coverage through his commentary role with Fox Sports, the Australian host broadcaster which also airs BBL. The Englishman was used for the Big Bash League which is screened in the UK via Sky Sports. He took part in the Perth Scorchers and the Hobart Hurricanes game last night.
Unfortunately, he didn’t take part in the first two Tests after testing COVID positive ahead of the Ashes opener. He will take part in the commentary for the upcoming three games, including Boxing Day Test but Vaughan will not be heard in the UK.
Why Vaughan was dropped by BBC Sport & BT Sport?
Azeem Rafiq, the former Yorkshire cricketer, had alleged that Vaughan had said “there are too many of you lot” following the selection of four players of Asian heritage in a county fixture in 2009. Vaughan, who denied the allegations, apologised last month for the “hurt” caused to Rafiq during his time as a player at Yorkshire.
BT Sport said, “including Michael Vaughan within our Ashes coverage would not be editorially appropriate,” as quoted by Mirror. They have instead flown David Gower for a commentary stint to Australia.
Vaughan was been earlier dropped from BBC Test Match Special’s commentary team which features Isha Guha.
