Antony in trouble after over ex-girlfriend assault: All you need to know

Antony in trouble as ex-girlfriend, Gabriele Cavallin talks about assault when they were together

Antony: After Brazil fired Antony amid claims that he abused his ex-girlfriend, Manchester United was thrust into yet another domestic violence controversy. Gabriela Cavallin alleged that Antony beat her when she was pregnant, damaged her breast implant, gave her cuts, and threatened to push her out of a moving car. This happened just days after United fired Mason Greenwood. The 23-year-old winger responded to the allegations on Monday night with a statement. But Brazil decided to replace him with Gabriel Jesus from Arsenal for the World Cup qualifiers against Bolivia and Peru.

Man United’s winger under pressure

After suspending Greenwood for 18 months after his arrest for attempted rape and assault, United refrained to comment. But they may now face pressure to act.

After dropping Antony, the Brazil FA issued a statement. That said, ‘In order to safeguard the alleged victim, the player, the Brazilian national team and the CBF, the organisation informs that Antony has been removed from the Brazilian national team.’

Antony issued a statement on Monday night denying the allegations from Cavallin. The statement said, ‘Out of respect for my fans, friends and family I feel obligated to speak publicly about the false accusations I have been a victim of. From the beginning I’ve handled this issue seriously and with respect, providing the due clarifications to the police authority. The police inquest is under cover of justice, therefore I cannot make its content public.’

He continued, ‘However, I can say with 100% confidence that the accusations are false and that the evidence already produced and more to be produced show that I am innocent of the accusations made. My relationship with Ms. Gabriela was tumultuous, with verbal offenses from both sides, but I never practiced any physical aggression’

The statement ended by saying, ‘Every time, whether in testimony or in interview, she presents a different version of the accusations. Thus, I come to deny the accusations made and inform that I remain at the full disposal of the Brazilian authorities to clarify what is needed in this case. I trust the ongoing police investigations will reveal the truth about my innocence.’

Cavallin on Antony’s abuse

After initially alleging four instances of domestic abuse, bodily harm, and threats to authorities in Sao Paulo in June, Cavallin has now filed a case against Antony with the Greater Manchester Police.

She provided additional details to the Brazilian website UOL on Monday, sharing screenshots from WhatsApp and images of her wounds. When they were on vacation in Brazil in June of last year, an incident occured. Cavallin accused Antony of assaulting her in a car. Also, threatening to throw her out the window at a high rate of speed.

She followed the player to Manchester when he transferred from Ajax to United for £81.3 million. She alleges that in January, she was the victim of a different assault that dislodged a breast implant and left her with a cut head.

The final attack, she claims, happened in May. Antony threatened her with a glass and she cut a finger trying to defend herself. ‘I was really scared that I wouldn’t be able to get out of the house,’ she said. ‘Antony locked the door and wouldn’t let me go out. I had my finger open, all hurt. He broke my things, took my passport.’
