Following the defeat, AJ gave an emotional speech on the mic about his career that wasn’t very well received by the boxing community. On the contrary, Joshua was mocked for the behavior.

A year after the fight, Anthony Joshua still appears emotional while recalling it. AJ has vanquished Jermaine Franklin after the second loss against Usyk and will face Robert Helenius this weekend.

Joshua spoke with DAZN Boxing prior to his return and revealed the loss that hurt him the most amongst all three professional defeats.

AJ said, “Usyk 2 [hurt the most]. Usyk 2, yeah massively but I respect [Oleksandr] Usyk. I respect him but it just hurts.”

“It was a weak performance. I wasn’t supposed to lose in my head and it just, I gave my life to this game. Man, I gave everything. I swear to you, I gave a lot and it’s just like even talking about it now.”

“It makes me feel like, ahhhh chokes up a bit.”

Anthony Joshua suffered his maiden career defeat against Andy Ruiz Jr. in July 2019, a major heavyweight upset in recent years. Nevertheless, ‘AJ’ bounced back in the same year and avenged the loss against Ruiz Jr.
