ALPHONSO DAVIES reveals SHOCK reason why FC BARCELONA rejected him

Alphonso Davies reveals reason as to why FC Barcelona rejected him before Bayern move, Real Madrid interested in the left-back

Alphonso Davies: FC Barcelona has had the chance to sign a lot of players before they blew up. But missing out on Alphonso Davies would really sting the Blaugrana. Before this season, they were struggling with the LB position, with only Jordi Alba being an out-and-out starter. According to Davies, he was rejected by former Barcelona president, Josep Bartomeu. The reason? Because he was a Canadian. Follow FC Barcelona Transfers LIVE Updates on InsideSport.IN

Davies joined Bayern in 2019, having previously played for the Vancouver Whitecaps. He has five Bundesliga championships and will win the Champions League in 2020, attracting transfer interest.

Barcelona was interested in signing him, the left-back claimed, but ultimately decided against it because of his nationality. Speaking to Say Less Podcast, he said, ‘Barcelona actually reached out but the president said they didn’t want me. They said they didn’t want me because I was Canadian. I’m not gonna lie that kind of crushed my feelings a little bit.’

He continued, ‘That’s what came out in the media. I don’t know if he actually said it but yeah, that’s what came out. In Vancouver, I wasn’t like the best player, I was average you know. There were obviously older guys that had much more experience and did more things and they were better at what they did.

Alejandro Balde’s emergence would soften the blow for the Blaugrana fans. The young player has been a revelation on the left back position and he will be a player to watch out for next season. Having Davies and Balde for the LB position would have that position sorted for the next couple of years but sadly, it wasn’t meant to be.

Real Madrid interested in signing Alphonso Davies?

As Real Madrid has been in need of a left-back under Carlo Ancelotti, Davies, 22, has been mentioned as a potential transfer target recently. It is anticipated that they will not try to sign the full-back until 2024. They may then try to buy him for a bargain price thanks to this.

It is a strategy Los Blancos have employed in the past to sign players like Eden Hazard from Chelsea and Toni Kroos from Bayern. Davies too might be interested in signing to Madrid after opening up about his struggles with loneliness in Germany.

Davies said, ‘Life as a professional footballer is very cool, no doubt. You can chill and enjoy life, but, after training, there’s nothing to do. For me, because I don’t have a family and my girlfriend is not living with me, I’m by myself.’

He continued, ‘It’s a little bit worrying not having something to do and especially when all your friends have work. I probably have like five friends. I’m a popular loser.’

The Los Blancos have been struggling with the LB position all season. Ferland Mendy has been injured for an extended period and they have been using Eduardo Camavinga as a makeshift left-back this past season. If it is possible, Madrid might look to make a move this summer too as they look to strengthen their back line.
