Ajinkya Rahane has provided a reassuring update on his fitness heading into Day 4 of the WTC Final. Rahane one of India’s shining lights, received multiple blows on his fingers while batting on Day 3. The former Test captain had the physio check in on him multiple times during his 89-run knock at the Oval in the IND vs AUS test.

It was Rahane’s innings that helped the Men in Blue avoid a follow on. The veteran stitched partnerships with Ravindra Jadeja and Shardul Thakur to keep India in the hunt.

Speaking after the end of play on Day 3, Rahane assured that his fitness was fine for a fourth innings essay.

He said, “Painful but quite manageable (blow to his finger). Don’t think it’ll affect batting. Happy with the way I batted. Had a good today. We were looking to get 320-330 but overall we had a good day. Bowling wise we bowled well. Everyone chipped in. That was a really good catch. We all know he’s a really good fielder. Has a big reach. “

Despite Rahane’s efforts, Australia took a sizeable 173 run lead. They further added 123/4 before Stumps to stretch their advantage to a massive 296. With two days of play still left, Rahane admitted that his team were on the backfoot.

“Australia slightly ahead in the game. For us it’s important to be in the moment, play session by session. First one hour will be crucial tomorrow. We know funny things can happen. Jadeja bowled really well, footmarks helped him against the left-hander. Still feel wicket will help seam bowlers,” he added.
