AIFF vs FIFA: Committee of Administrators caught OFF-GUARD ahead of crucial visit from FIFA delegates next week, yet to form strategy

“The FIFA team is coming next week. We haven’t chalked out any strategy, we have no special plan before meeting them. Our policy is simple. We will tell FIFA what we are here for. I am sure they will understand this,” said Dr. S. Y. Quraishi to Scroll.in.

When the apex court of the country, i.e the Supreme Court formed the Committee of Administrators to control the AIFF, the former President of the organization, Praful Patel was asked to vacate his seat. Patel had previously served his maximum three-term. However, as the norms set by FIFA, no third body can go on to control the Football Federation of a country.

FIFA along with the AFC will be sending a team of delegates to look into the matter and the proceedings when they were informed about the CoA taking control of the AIFF. The CoA have apparently not made any special plans and strategy to deal with the delegations. S. Y. Quraishi believes that they will simply explain their role to FIFA.

The CoA has two main jobs at the hand. First and foremost, the new constitution of the AIFF needs to be scrutinized and sent back to the Supreme Court. Another big job would be to democratically conduct the elections of the AIFF. Once these two jobs are fulfilled the CoA will be dismissed as the AIFF with its proper body will resume functioning.

“We are not here to stay. The country’s highest court has entrusted us with a job and we want to finish it off within the period specified by the court. Our aim is to hold the elections as soon as possible and get out of it. That’s the way we want to serve the game,” he added.

“There are indeed some issues….problems and negativity, but that’s nothing big. Overall, it is good, the activities are going on, the matches are being played, so there is not much to complaint about. But then, there are some questionable acts, mostly involving some financial issues,” said Quraishi about the AIFF.
