IND vs SA Test Series – SJN Report Findings:
- Appointments of Graeme Smith and Mark Boucher were flawed and the 2015-16 RamSlam match-fixing investigation was not racist.
- Mark Boucher, Graeme Smith and others have been accused of derogatory race based comments towards former South African leg-spinner Paul Adams, including singing a victory song that included racial slurs against Adams.
“I was called brown s… when I was playing,” Adams said.
“It often used to be a song when we won a game and we were in fines’ meetings. They would sing, ‘brown s… in the ring, tra la la la laa,’” Adams said.
“When you are playing for your country, when you have had that victory, you don’t make sense of it, you brush it off, but it’s blatantly racist.
“Some people will say unconscious bias and they weren’t aware but this is why we are here – to change that.”
Adams also felt during his playing career that he was left out of the side for off-spinner Pat Symcox based on race.
“It felt like they were suppressing me and hiding me away. I had a feeling they didn’t want me to outshine the white player and rather just left me in that corner and sit and listen.”
