Neymar Jr set to miss game vs Mumbai City FC as he gets injured with Brazilian National Team

Stop the Press. Neymar Jr, the Brazilian football star, may not be able to travel to India due to an injury sustained during a FIFA World Cup Qualifier on Wednesday. Neymar, who has a large fan following in India, was expected to draw large audiences to the DY Patil stadium. Al Hilal’s AFC Champions League encounter against Mumbai City FC was going to see Neymar in India, but that is not going to happen now. His injury will see the winger out for close to 9 months of action.

India will not be able to witness Neymar Jr magic

On November 6, the Brazilian skipper was scheduled to play in India in a group-stage ACL match. Mumbai City FC has even reserved a considerably larger DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai to accommodate the match’s fan fever.

But now, after having medical testing on his left leg, Neymar Jr acknowledged the worst-case scenario via his own social media channels. During the match between Uruguay and Brazil, Neymar appeared to have a catastrophic injury and began weeping in anguish. Neymar was seen on crutches after the game.

The player confirmed that he had a total tear of his ACL and meniscus. His club (Al-Hilal) also verified the news on their official website, confirming his greatest fears.

Ney surely missing clash vs Mumbai City FC

Neymar was injured near the conclusion of the first half after tripping while running. Players from both teams swarmed around him as he grabbed his left knee in agony.

Brazil team’s doctor, Rodrigo Lasmar, had earlier said, ‘These 24 hours will be important to see how the knee will respond, how will be the swelling. Imaging tests that will define a definitive diagnosis. It’s too early to say [if it’s a ligament injury]. Let’s wait for the exams calmly, evaluate calmly, and as soon as we have a definition we will let you know.’

Neymar, who was really disappointed with the injury, did not speak to the reporters in Uruguay. But, he took to Instagram and shared a post, which said, ‘God knows about all things, no matter what, I have faith.’

This comes as a blow to all fans in India. The prospect of seeing one of football’s global stars at their home was a very exciting one. Fans were lining up and tickets were being sold like hot cakes, as fans would get to watch Neymar Jr.

Now though, with this injury, it is no doubt that the Brazilian will miss this game. There is also a chance that Neymar might miss the Copa America 2024. Hopefully, when Neymar is back to full fitness, he is also back to being his best on the pitch.
